Buckinghamshire County Council
Assessment Backlog

The NRS Clinical Team has recently undertaken a contract supporting Buckinghamshire County Council to clear a backlog of Service Users awaiting an Occupational Therapy assessment. Through this contract, we have assessed and case managed over 450 Service Users with a wide range of needs.

During the work, we recommended simple and complex equipment, minor and major adaptations, rehousing and signposting to a number of different voluntary organisations and self-funding options. We worked in partnership with all Service Users and agencies as necessary including Home Improvement Agencies to process the DFG work and other adaptations – carrying out joint visits, liaising with housing officers and building surveyors.

Best Value: We have analysed the work we conducted in Buckinghamshire and have discovered that our NRS OTs spent an average of 25% less than Local Authority OTs on equipment for equivalent Service Users with the same satisfied outcome and needs met. This was due partly to our vast knowledge of the community equipment market.

Commissioners were extremely pleased with our work:

“Liz and I wish to express on behalf of the OT service our appreciation on the large part you and your colleagues at NRS have had in this achievement.

It has been a pleasure working with you all – the level of the assessments carried out by all staff have been of an exceptional standard with well documents reports and communication with us”
